Suddenly, This Summer

The short sleeve shirts are in the wash and they’re not looking quite as spiffy as I remembered.

Everything seems a bit tired, stretched out and careworn. The turquoise shirt isn’t as bold as it once was and the lemon yellow is fraying around the neck. There are spots I hadn’t noticed before on the orange shirt and the blue print doesn’t fit like I thought it did.

When I put them all away for the winter it felt like I was saying so long to cheerful, fun loving friends. We had some good times together, but the party, it seems, it over. It might be time to invite some new friends to join me this season.

Laundry knows what you did last summer. You might forget, but your clothes never do.
